No 3-D for Bats 3?

Source: MovieWeb.com

Breathe a sigh of relief. Cinematographer of
Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Wally Pfister has no intentions on using a 3-D format in the (still unannounced, but seriously how can it not happen) third installment of the Nolan/Bale Batman franchise.

Pfister actually was very adamant about not shooting in what he calls the "3-D fad" claiming that the format might have worn off by the time the movie is released. He does leave the option of shooting at least some of the film in IMAX, just like the infamous bank robbery scene from The Dark Knight, which for anyone who saw that sequence you know that is good news.

What is known for sure at this point, according to Pfister, is that Bats 3 is going to happen and it will be shot old school on film. Right now there is a tentative release date of sometime in 2012, but seeing as the film is in no farther than pre-preproduction that time frame could easily change.

Star Wars Blu-ray Release on the Horizon

Source: Blu-ray.com

About time! I have waited since I bought my PS3 for this day to come. The day the original Star Wars trilogy in all of its glory would released on Blu-ray. That day is more than just wishful thinking now!

Said Steve Sansweet, a Lucasfilm employee, "We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material."

No official date was given, but many assume it will be sometime next year to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the theatrical release of A New Hope. I can barely contain myself! Say what you want about the prequels (I often do) but the original trilogy is sci-fi gospel.

Nota Bene: That isn't official art, just wishful thinking.

Netflix Adds Subtitles

Source: The Netflix Blog

If you are anything like me most of your Netflix viewing takes place through online streaming using their “Instant Play” feature. Netflix has just added a new feature to its online streaming: closed captioning.

Promised last year, closed captioning is now available on some streaming TV shows and movies. Right now it is a very limited library of about 100 titles but they now have the technology in place and Neil Hunt, Chief Product Officer a Netflix, promises “we will be working to fill in the library over time.”

There you go; closed captioning has begun to infiltrate Netflix. Just one more feature for an already amazing rental service.

Avatar Ultimate Edition Blu-ray

Source: Comingsoon.net

The guys over at Comingsoon.net got a chance to talk with Avatar Producer John Landau about the specs for the forthcoming Blu-ray. Over the next couple of months He and James Cameron will be picking through supplements that will go into a four-disc ultimate edition of Avatar.

Some of the special features that have already made the cut include a two hour documentary on the making of Avatar and various unused scenes, such as more of the Avatar school and Jake Sully in training. Sounds like a quality start to me, but to fill up three extra discs a lot more will be needed and it will take a lot of time.

But instead of monopolizing the “King of the Worlds” time Landau says they have a system in place that will also allow Cameron time to work on his upcoming projects like an Avatar sequel.

If you don’t think you can wait for the ultimate edition of Avatar the regular one will be up for grabs April 22nd sans special features. They don’t want to punish those of you who can’t wait, however, and will give people that bought the initial release the opportunity to watch the special features on their website once they are completed at Avatarmovie.com.

Nota Bene: For those of you who have yet to see film history or want to experience it over again, Avatar is being re-released in select IMAX theaters this weekend.
